WHY WE EXIST

At Sound Mind Society, our vision is to empower young women to heal from and stay out of toxic relationships while pursuing their God-given dreams. We are committed to a trauma-informed, holistic approach to recovery after abuse.

We specialize in addressing intimate partner abuse, but we recognize that abuse can take many forms—spiritual, workplace, family dynamics, and even friendships. We see abuse as the misuse of power and control in any relationship.

As a survivor myself, I (Hailey) am passionate about creating safe spaces where young women can be themselves and learn to recognize the signs of abuse. By fostering these environments and providing education, we can make a lasting difference in their lives.

At Sound Mind Society, our goal is not just to survive after abuse but to THRIVE.

MY STORY

In 2019, right before everything changed for the world, my own world fell apart. I went through a mental health crisis that shattered my life. After spending a week in a care facility, I was misdiagnosed and overwhelmed with medication. It took nearly a month to recover from the high doses of lithium and slowly relearn how to read, write, and speak clearly again.

For months, I cycled through every medication designed to stabilize my mood, yet nothing seemed to help. It wasn’t that the medications weren’t effective; they just weren’t addressing the real issue. My struggle wasn’t about mood—it was rooted in deep, unresolved trauma. Toxic relationships, sexual assault, sports injuries, religious trauma, and chronic illness all contributed to my lowest point. Each of these wounds played a role in my suffering, making it clear that healing needed to address more than just the surface symptoms.

For over three years, I battled through the darkness with the guidance of the Holy Spirit, the support of therapy, and the unwavering strength of my support system. 2 Timothy 1:7 was my anchor for this whole time in my life, “For God has not given us a Spirit of Fear, but power, love & Sound Mind.” Finally, I received the confirmation I had always known deep down: my mind was sound, but the trauma I had endured had been silently tearing my body apart for years.

Now, my mission is clear: to raise awareness about the warning signs of trauma and abuse, and to guide young women in healing from and avoiding toxic relationships. These past years have been some of the most fulfilling of my life. I no longer take medication for mood disorders and have had the privilege of helping others on their own paths to healing.

This is the essence of Sound Mind Society, and I’m truly grateful that you’re here with us.
